About Kosi Bay
Kosi Bay is a system of four interconnected lakes and estuaries in the far north of KwaZulu-Natal, within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is known for its extraordinary biodiversity: ancient fish traps still in use by local Thonga communities, nesting leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles, hippos, crocodiles, and a remarkable variety of bird species.
The estuary mouth opens onto a pristine stretch of the Indian Ocean coastline, offering snorkelling in clear, warm water. Kosi Bay's remoteness — close to the Mozambique border — is central to its appeal. It is one of the least-developed coastal destinations in South Africa, and the journey there is part of the experience.
